Frances Middlebrooks Obituary

Frances Middlebrooks was born October 27, 1928, in Macon, GA.  The family moved to Florida and after graduating from Manatee High School in Bradenton and Asbury College in Wilmore KY with a degree in English, she then moved to Albany, GA for a teaching position.  It was here that Frances met the love of her life, Irven Middlebrooks on a blind date, and they married on June 5, 1955. They had one daughter, Dianne Knippel, who currently lives in Palmdale, CA.

Frances was a passionate teacher, and her career was very diverse. She taught English at Albany High School in GA from 1952-1955. She also loved theater and taught English, Spanish and Play Production, at Perry High School, from 1955-1962.  The family then moved to Palm Beach Gardens, FL where she became the Dean of the Language Arts Department at Jupiter High School from 1962 to 1988 when she retired. Frances also received an MS at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL.

She believed in supporting her communities through church and civic activities.  From 1955-1962 she was a member of the First Methodist Church of Perry, member of the Junior Women’s Club and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). While in Florida, from 1962 through 1994, she was a charter member at Trinity United Methodist Church and the First Chairman of the Education Committee and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma honorary society for outstanding women in education.

Frances and Irven moved to Jackson in 1994 and she continued her volunteerism as a member of the Jackson United Methodist Church, the Mimosa Garden Club, the hospital auxiliary, the Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center, and judging the DAR national annual essay contests. She and Irven managed the business office at Indian Springs Holiness Campground in Flovilla for over 10 years. One of the reasons they moved to Jackson was to be close to Indian Springs Holiness Campground where Frances and her family spent every summer during her childhood and on through her adult life.

From 2017 to her death on April 15, 2024, Frances suffered many health issues which disabled her from active life outside the home. Irven Middlebrooks preceded her in death in 2016.  She is survived by her daughter Dianne Knippel.
